The egg has always been a powerful symbol for ancient civilizations (Egyptians, Greeks, Persians...). Representing the origin of life, the egg became a good luck charm given in spring, celebrating the return of good weather and thus the rebirth of the world (flowering is the perfect example). In Christian tradition, the egg was therefore associated with the resurrection of Christ, hence its central place at Easter.

But then, why chocolate? Let’s go to the Age of Enlightenment, much to the delight of gourmands, where German and French chocolatiers had the idea to fill empty eggshells with melted chocolate (we thank the arrival of cocoa in Europe for this delicious technique!). It was only later, with the evolution of techniques, that shells gave way to solid and original chocolate Easter molds.

A real chocolate egg?

Like the first Easter eggs in the 18th century, our master chocolatier has kept this ancient tradition alive while updating it for today. Let us explain the process. The eggshell is a long-standing tradition of Petit Duc, almost lost for good reason... Making these eggs is a long and meticulous process. Real eggshells have been tapped, emptied, washed, sterilized, then filled with delicious milk praline chocolate… And what milk praline chocolate!

Our recipe is simply delicious: praline with hazelnut pieces (making up more than half of the recipe), good milk chocolate, vanilla extract, and that’s it! Nothing complicated, just good ingredients, no additives or preservatives... A recipe approved by both little and big gourmands!

How to enjoy your Easter eggs?

You loved the packaging (because our hens are way too cute), now it’s time to enjoy the treat!

Here are our two tips to savor our real chocolate Easter eggs made by our master chocolatier.

Tip #1: Enjoy the chocolate egg right away!

Our real eggshell is extremely indulgent, which is why you can bite into its smooth praline chocolate blend with full teeth. To shell it more easily, we recommend placing it in the fridge for a few minutes; the shell will come off more easily if the chocolate doesn’t melt between your fingers. A little trick that will let you shell it and enjoy it faster...

Tip #2: Enjoy the melted chocolate egg

Be careful, this second option is for the most indulgent among us (and not necessarily the most patient). Here, no need to shell the egg, but you will need a kitchen accessory you probably have: the egg cup! Place your eggshell on the egg cup (hole facing up, of course) and put it in the microwave. A few seconds are enough to turn this real chocolate egg into a deliciously chocolatey hazelnut praline cream. The main idea? Dip brioche sticks or long biscuits to savor during an exceptional snack break. Guaranteed success with kids!
