At Biscuiterie de Provence, we create incredibly delicious biscuits and cakes. You're probably familiar with the orange blossom navette; well, today, we're introducing the anise navette. A brand new recipe added to our range of traditional biscuits for your greatest pleasure!
Anise Navette, a unique creation from Biscuiterie de Provence!
Inspired by our traditional orange blossom recipe, our pastry chefs have developed an anise variation. This involved a long process to find the perfect dosage for this beloved Provençal flavor.
After numerous trials, we found the exquisite recipe! A biscuit with a shortbread-like texture and its characteristic boat shape, reminiscent of the Marseille navette, dating back to 1781. When you hold your biscuit, you'll see the small anise seeds and, most importantly, smell that distinctive wonderful aroma...
From the first bite, you'll be transported to the South, with its warm sun and the song of cicadas.
If you love anise, then don't miss out on discovering our delicious recipe!
The origin of the Provençal navette
The navette, this small biscuit of Marseillaise origin, has nearly three centuries of history. Its origins remain somewhat hazy, but its creation is attributed to Monsieur Aveyrous, a baker from Marseille, in 1781. He is said to have conceived this biscuit to commemorate the arrival of the Saintes Maries on the Provençal coast. Its characteristic boat shape is inspired by the small boat that is said to have guided them to the shores. To add a touch of sweetness to this biscuit, Monsieur Aveyrous incorporated orange blossom into his recipe.
Every year in Marseille, the navette is celebrated during Candlemas, in homage to the presentation of Jesus at the temple. This biscuit, with a rich past, continues to share its flavors across generations.
Why choose anise?
For our new biscuit recipe, we looked for a plant characteristic of the South of France that would appeal to a large audience, and the choice fell on anise! It's an ingredient that is not widely used, yet it possesses many benefits.
A symbol of sunshine and relaxation, we also want to transport you to our beautiful region through our biscuit.
The benefits of Anise
Anise is a plant with multiple virtues. Used for centuries for its medicinal properties, it is recognized for its health and well-being benefits.
First, anise is renowned for its digestive properties. Indeed, it promotes digestion by stimulating the production of gastric juices and facilitating intestinal transit. An anise infusion after meals can help relieve digestive disorders: bloating, stomach cramps, and nausea.
Furthermore, anise has antispasmodic properties, making it a valuable ally for relieving stomach aches and colic in infants. It can also help alleviate menstrual pain in women.
Anise is also known for its expectorant and antitussive virtues. In inhalation or infusion, it can help relieve symptoms of respiratory conditions such as coughs, colds, and bronchitis.
Anise is also appreciated for its relaxing and soothing action. Its fragrance acts as a true antidote to stress and anxiety.
Incorporating anise into our daily lives can only contribute to improving our health and quality of life naturally and effectively!
So, after learning more about anise, it's now time to taste our navettes!
